ED 209, we salute you

The year was 1987, I lived in Imperial Beach. A lot of “good movies” came out that year. Fatal Attraction, Good Morning Vietnam, The Untouchables, Lethal Weapon, Dirty Dancing and so many others. One film stood aside from the normal style of movies that were coming out. This film was Robocop. It was semi futuristic, had lots of blood and was corny as hell. Even with how famous this movie is and how many people know about Robocop this movie didn’t even make the top 10 movies of 1987. There are things about the movie you will never forget. You will never forget the Auto-9 (Robocop gun) and you will also never forget ED 209.

Enforcement Droid Series 209 (ED 209) was armed with a 20mm machine gun and heat seeking missles on his left hand and two more 20mm machine guns on his right and mortars behind his head. He had the demanding voice of Jon Davison who happens to also be the producer of such films as Airplane, Twilight Zone and Starship Troopers.

I don’t want to write about this all day but I’ll say this. ED 209 is not a bad droid. ED 209 is indifferent. It follows orders and has no emotional attachment. If you program it for good or bad it will follow orders. All I’m saying is ED 209 is bad ass. Respect the droid.
